Sponsored UCInetIDs

If your guest is a volunteer, a high school student here for an unpaid internship or visiting for the summer, or a recently-separated employee who needs additional time and therefore needs their access to not be interrupted, you should submit a Sponsored UCInetID request. PLEASE INDICATE THIS ON THE REQEUST FORM TO AVOID ANY PROCESSING DELAYS.

If your guest fits one of the following categories, please ask someone from your local HR department to submit a Contingent Worker (CWR) request instead on the guest's behalf, which will add them to UCPath. A CWR is defined as someone who is providing services to UCI on a non-permanent basis and potentially paid by a 3rd party (e.g. research assistant, visiting researcher, consultant, contractor, etc.).

Sponsored UCInetID Application

You should not request a Sponsored UCInetID for a future employee or a future CWR-Contingent Worker.  A UCInetID will be automatically issued for them at the completion of the hiring process through UCPath. Most people who would have been granted a Sponsored UCInetID in the past will now need to be entered in UCPath as a CONTINGENT WORKER (CWR).

Sponsored UCInetID Creation Process

UCInetID Activation

As a member of the UCI and worldwide electronic community, you are expected to follow UCI's Computer Use Policy. Activating your UCInetID signifies acceptance of this policy.

Sponsored UCInetID Renewal Process

Sponsored UCInetIDs can be sponsored on a quarterly basis or to a specific expiration date, for a maximum of 4 quarters or 12 months at a time.

Renewal Notification

Approximately one month before the end the current sponsorship window, sponsors will receive an email message as a reminder to renew Sponsored UCInetIDs. Both sponsor and the person sponsored will be notified about the upcoming expiration of the UCInetID. The sponsor must review the list of UCInetIDs he or she is responsible for and renew the sponsorship for up to four additional quarters or a specific date within the next 12 months.

Sponsored UCInetID Change in Affiliation

Sponsored UCInetID Deactivation

If your Guest no longer needs their UCInetID, you will soon be able to submit a request via a new Request Form to deactivate the UCInetID. For now, simply open a ticket with OIT.

Please note that you will still need to contact your CSC to cancel their computer logon and access to email.

Sponsors should also contact their DSA (Departmental Security Administrator) to login to SAMS or KSAMS and cancel the Guest's access to any business applications (like KFS) and their departmental VPN.

For questions regarding UCI Health Sciences managed Sponsored UCInetIDs, please contact the UCI Health Sciences Help Desk at (714) 456-3333.

CAMP & COSMOS Summer Programs (and Guest Presenters)

A note to CAMP & COSMOS summer program coordinators: please do NOT request Sponsored UCInetIDs for visiting high school students *unless* they need to complete safety training in the UC Learning Center.

The students can use our campus wi-fi (UCInet) and ResNet Mobile Access by simply using the Visitor Registration tool. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the visitor registration last for 7 days (unlike 24-hours during the school year), meaning they only have to re-register their devices weekly).

If student needs a username and password to login to lab computers, the OIT Service Desk can provide you with a temporary Group UCInetID and password that will work on those machines. Please open a ticket requesting these credentials, along with the following information:

  • the name of the summer program
  • the program start and end dates

We will reserve the temporary Group UCInetID and password for you to share with the students. Please note the temporary Group UCInetID has restricted access, meaning it will only work on lab computers and should not be used for any purpose (such as accessing the VPN or registering devices on UCInet).

Guest Presenters

If you have a Guest Presenter visiting the campus for 1 week or less, and they need to be able to login to a UCI computer in a Smart Classroom or Computer Lab to give their presentation, we can also provide you with a temporary Group UCInetID and password that will work on those machines. Please open a ticket requesting these credentials, along with the following information:

  • the visitor's name
  • the purpose of their visit
  • the dates they will be on campus

We will reserve the temporary Group UCInetID and password for you to share with the students. Please note the temporary Group UCInetID has restricted access, meaning it will only work on lab computers and should not be used for any purpose (such as accessing the VPN or registering devices on UCInet).
