New Campus Phone Service Announced

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is excited to announce our plans to offer a new phone service using Microsoft Teams. We’re expanding Teams capabilities by adding full telephone functionality that allows you to now make and receive off-campus calls. This initiative will replace our legacy Mitel on-campus PBX phone system with a more cost-effective, secure, and flexible service that strategically aligns with UCI’s Work Reimagined initiative. It also contributes to our environmental sustainability goals by reducing on-premise IT infrastructure, power, and cooling.

Benefits

With Teams Phone:

  • You will keep your existing campus phone number
  • You have access to a variety of features, including:
    • Make and receive off-campus calls
    • Use your Teams phone from any location on any device
    • Voicemail and transcriptions
    • Block unwanted calls

Teams Phone service will reduce the cost of existing OIT-provided telephone services by up to 50%, bundling voicemail and unlimited domestic calling in the monthly price of the service. See our pricing web page for more detail.

Migration Project

OIT has started a multi-year project to migrate our customers from the Mitel phone service to the new Teams Phone service. The first migration of early adopters is scheduled for Spring 2023. We will be contacting departments and groups on campus in the coming months to plan and schedule their personalized migration. To learn more about the migration, visit our Teams Phone project page
