Retiring login.uci.edu

April 25, 2024

On May 1, 2024, at 7:30 AM, the URL login.uci.edu will direct people to a new landing page. This change is part of our ongoing efforts to complete the decommissioning of WebAuth. The new landing page will help inform people that an existing bookmark to WebAuth needs to be updated.

Why is this change happening?

In early 2020, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) began transitioning from UCI’s internally developed single sign-on system, WebAuth, to a standards-based solution. This shift was driven by the need for better integration capabilities, especially as UCI increased its adoption of cloud-based services. The integration challenges with WebAuth made it clear that a new approach was necessary. Consequently, we adopted Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML), a UC-endorsed standard that is widely supported by cloud service providers.

Over the past three years, we have successfully migrated hundreds of applications from WebAuth to Shibboleth, our new single sign-on service. All applications have transitioned or signed off, and we are now finishing the remaining steps of decommissioning WebAuth

What You Need to Do

As we approach the final stages of this transition, people who have bookmarks set to login.uci.edu should update them to the website they originally intended on visiting. This adjustment will ensure uninterrupted access to all your applications and services.

We’re Here to Help

Your support and cooperation throughout this migration have been invaluable. The success of this project is a testament to the collective efforts of our community. Should you have any questions or require assistance during this transition, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of Information Technology at oit@uci.edu.

Together, we’re making UCI’s digital environment more secure and user-friendly for everyone.
