The Office of Information Technology (OIT), in collaboration with UCI Dining Services, has launched a summer pilot program of the Amazon Web Services ‘Amazon One’ palm recognition scanner. All UCI students now have touchless access to meals at Brandywine Commons using  only the palm of their hand!

Launched on Monday, June 24, the pilot is currently set to run through summer, with potential for an extension into fall based on interest over the coming months. Students are encouraged to sign up and try out the service at their next meal time.

The goal of the pilot, which is currently available in Brandywine Commons, is to gauge interest by students in the usage of the terminal versus using a physical ID card or mobile device, and to determine the efficiency compared to the existing scanning methods currently being used.

Students who wish to participate can enroll online via UCI Dining Services or in person, starting July 8, at the Dining Office in G318 Student Center for the remainder of the summer.
