Beginning Friday, December 20, 2024, chat messages in Google Chat, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom Chat that are more than 1-year old will begin to be auto-deleted. This new policy applies for all students, faculty, staff, and affiliates at UCI.

Messages older than December 20, 2023 will be deleted on the day of implementation, and moving forward, all messages more than 365 days old will automatically be deleted at their 1-year mark on an on-going basis. 

We encourage everyone to move any important information currently stored in messages to a more secure, permanent location prior to the policy’s implementation date.  

Note: Files shared through Teams chat will NOT be deleted as part of this policy and will remain stored in OneDrive and SharePoint Online.
