Duo MFA: March 17 Deadline to Update App

Mar 11, 2025 | Home Page News, News

Our ZotDefend project Duo fortifications continue this month with an update to Duo MFA that requires users to be on a newer version of the application for it to be able to run its full functionality.

Beginning Monday, March 17, 2025, if faculty, staff or student’s devices are not running Duo Mobile version 4.49 or higher, they may have issues authenticating in Duo using the mobile passcode, resulting in a loss of access to services requiring UCI Single Sign On (SSO). After the update, users will still be able to use Duo push for authentication.

Running Duo on the latest version allows our security settings to be tailored to the highest industry standards, and helps protect important data and resources such as UCPath.

Those who are not running 4.49 or higher should take the following steps to ensure they do not lose access:

  • Upgrade to:
    • Duo Mobile version 4.49 or later
    • iOS 15 or later (for Apple devices)
    • Android 11 or later (for Android devices)
  • If the device is already running iOS 15+ or Android 11+ you do not need to update your mobile OS, but it is recommended. Follow these instructions to update the Duo Mobile App and/or Mobile OS.
  • If the device is unable to upgrade please upgrade to a newer device that supports version 4.49 or higher or add a different supported device to the Duo account as soon as possible. (What you add will become your new device for accepting Duo push notifications). If this isn’t an option, contact the OIT Help Desk at oit@uci.edu.

Questions regarding ZotDefend or updating the Duo application, should be directed to our Help Desk at oit@uci.edu.
