The next phase of our ZotDefend cybersecurity initiative is here—the ZotDefend Security Package. This essential security update must be installed on all University computers by May 19, 2025 to protect our campus network and your data.
Since the launch of the ZotDefend campaign, we have achieved several important milestones:
- 98% compliance with cybersecurity training across campus
- Fortified Duo for enhanced multi-factor authentication
- Secured retiree and alumni email accounts to protect our extended community
Now, we are taking the next step to secure your devices with the ZotDefend Security Package. Here’s what you need to know:
Faculty and Staff working in a school: Your school IT directors or local IT group will work with you directly to get your security updates installed. If you would like to get a head start and install the package now, please reach out to your local IT group.
Faculty and Staff working in an administrative unit: Your computer is managed by OIT and you will receive the update automatically. No action is needed.
Please note that without the ZotDefend Security Package, you will not be able to access protected areas of our campus network such as KFS, Docusign, FacNet, and some department servers after the May 19 deadline. The list of blocked applications will grow over the course of 2025.
This initiative is part of a mandate for all UC campuses to protect the University’s sensitive information and mitigate potential risks such as ransomware. It includes the UC Cybersecurity Mandate 2025, IS-3 encryption compliance, and IS-12 backup compliance.

Thank you for your continued commitment to protecting UCI’s digital world.
