Server Registration
Quicklink(s)
Server registration is required if you have a business need to open a computer or server to the internet for specific applications such as a web server.
Why Register as a Server?
- You have a business need to make a computer available to the public/internet for a specific web application like a web server.
By default, the campus firewall denies internet/public access to computers and servers hosted on campus. Some computers require that incoming connections from the public be permitted for specific applications such as web servers.
Alternatives
- Use the VPN to connect to on-campus computers without the need to register them as servers.
Most computers do not need to accept incoming network connections initiated from off-campus. Limiting off-campus access enhances the security of the campus network for everyone.
When Changes Take Effect
Server registrations take effect 4 times per day: 7:10 am, 12:10 pm, 5:10 pm, and 10:10 pm Pacific Time. Your change will take effect following your server registration submission.
