Introducing OIT’s BigFix Self-Service Portal

Jan 24, 2022 | News

The Office of Information Technology has launched its BigFix Self-Service Portal to better serve the needs of its managed users.  Now, OIT-managed PC users have the ability to install specific software without the need to contact the Help Desk.

What is the OIT BigFix Portal?

The OIT BigFix Portal allows OIT-managed PC users to choose and install certain software on their own. When an application is eligible for self-service installation, it will be added to a list of applications “offered” by the BigFix software installation feature.

What type of software is currently offered in the BigFix Portal?

Any commonly-used free software titles (such as MiCollab, Adobe Creative Cloud, or Notepad++), but additional titles will be added as they become available.

How long does it take for the software to install?

Software installs are usually completed within the hour but can take up to 24 hours depending on the size of the application and the server load.

Can I use the BigFix Portal if I have an Apple computer?

Not currently, but we’re working on making it available to Mac users in the near future.

How can I access the portal?

Instructions for accessing the portal are available in the OIT Knowledge Base.

Clients with questions or issues should contact the OIT Help Desk at oit@uci.edu.
