AWS 2.0 Migration
OIT’s new AWS 2.0 enterprise-class cloud environment makes it easier to use and manage AWS services by offering more streamlined requests, higher baseline security, and a more simple billing and invoicing process.
OIT built a cloud environment that is intended to be easier to use and manage than the standard Amazon Web Services (AWS) offerings. We call this enterprise-class cloud environment “AWS 2.0 Cloud” and we intend for it to be the future home for campus-facing services and applications. Our aim is to:
- Make it easy for you to request services
- Provide you a higher level of baseline security
- Simplify the billing and invoicing process for you
What is the AWS 2.0 Cloud and why use it?
OIT has dipped its toes in the AWS waters before, creating a first-generation enterprise cloud environment dubbed AWS 1.0. The discoveries made and lessons learned through that process led to the development of the AWS 2.0 Cloud, a more secure, redundant, and cost-efficient environment designed for critical infrastructure and P4 data protection. OIT designed AWS 2.0 not only as its future data center but also as an environment that the broader campus community can access.
We will be rolling out our Cloud Services portal in early 2023 and adding additional services throughout the course of the year. These services are expected to be easy to order and streamline the invoicing and billing process.
What you can request today
- An AWS account that includes:
- higher baseline security than standard AWS
- 17% off AWS retail prices, negotiated by the UC system
- Secure OIT-managed server(s).
- We will engage with you to understand your needs and help you navigate the myriad of options available.
What you’ll be able to request later this year
- Simplified security assessments to help you meet grant compliance
- Templated environments with pre-designed security, data backup, and cost profiles
