Desktop Telephones

New Mitel PBX Phone Services are no longer being offered as we are migrating away from the Mitel PBX Phone System. During the transition period, if we are unable to provide MS Teams Phone Service, an exception will be made.

Telephone Types

Desktop Telephones

OIT offers three types of desktop telephones. See the Support tab for user guides and FAQs.

  • Digital Multiline Telephones (Aastra, Ericsson, Mitel)
  • Analog Single Line Telephones
  • Voice Over IP Telephones (Mitel IP Phones)

Software Telephones

  • Software IP Phones (Micollab) is a “softphone” application used on a mobile device or computer that allows people to make and answer calls using a UCI phone number. It replaces the need to have a desktop telephone. Micollab is being phased out and replaced with MS Teams Phone.
  • MS Teams Phone is a cloud-based phone system that allows you to make and receive phone calls using your UCI number directly within the Microsoft Teams platform.

Headsets

Headsets are not offered by OIT, but departments can purchase any headset of their choice. Most headsets on campus are POLY (formerly Plantronics) headsets with Mitel phones. You can view the Compatibility Guide to help you decide which headset you want by entering your phone type.

Cordless Phones at UCI

Cordless Phones are not offered by OIT, and they are highly discouraged because they have been known to interfere with wireless access points.
